This prestigious award – named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and highlighted by a 2-1/2”-diameter, heavy bronze memorial medal featuring a raised bust of that distinguished figure – was presented during one of Gibson’s finest years. The award is crafted of a velvet-covered backing, with a recess provided to accommodate the King medal and an adhered 3-1/2”-square metal plate reading, “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – East-West Major League Baseball Classic – Los Angeles 1970 – Presented to Bob Gibson – For Your Participation in the Cause of Human Dignity – SCLC – Dr. Ralph D. Abernathy, President – Compliments of Coca-Cola U.S.A.” The award measures 8-1/4” x 4-3/4”, and features a small hole at the top edge to facilitate wall-hanging. EX/MT in appearance.
