Likely penned in the late '20s, this OAL (Barnard) ball holds the signatures of the game's most celebrated tandem - Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The medium has a small residual stain in one of the benign panels (eclipsed in normal display), and it is otherwise lightly and uniformly off-white. As if to prescription, Ruth claimed the sweet spot while Gehrig signed the west panel. The signatures, as a continuum, traverse about half of the ball's circumference. In this particular signing, however, there's a magnificent subtlety in the union of the coveted autographs. Their placement - one in respect to the other - is on an acceptably common attitude. But of greater artistic perfection is their nearly identical evolution to a hue of dark green. And certainly not to be ignored is their identical intensity - both signatures are about "8" in quality (the relatively light "L" in "Lou" notwithstanding). Strong...clean...legible - all attributes that characterize this dual signing of the Yankee megastars. But their mellow harmony here lifts this one to unique greatness. LOA from PSA DNA.
