Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by SGC. Offered is a creditable example of what is indisputably one of the most famous and valuable "error" cards in our hobby. At the beginning of T206's print run, a few cards from the "Piedmont 150" series slipped out with Phillie outfielder Sherry Magee's name misspelled as "Magie." This mistake was quickly discovered and corrected, and the few early, undetected copies have become today's profound rarities. This is, of course, one of the "Big Three" from the White Border production, and a card that is absent from many high-profile tobacco card collections. This copy concedes some trimming at the bottom edge and a few mild creases, but its central image is unmistakable. The card's distinctive "error" caption component is crisply printed and the Piedmont back advertisement is fully legible. Tiny machine-holes in the top and bottom borders suggest that the card was once sewn into a tapestry or similar cloth display – a fate that typically befell only the tobacco insert silks of the period! This ever-elusive piece, presented here in affordable grade, appears on the wantlist of almost every T206 collector and is always considered a defining mark of accomplishment for its owner. This example displays a realistically assessed Fair aesthetic, but retains a captivating presence.
